See Picture-perfect Autumn Leaves in S. Korea

Visit famed Naejangsan National Park for its gorgeous displays of fall foliage — plus, tour the countryside to pick ginseng, ride a steam engine train & more!

About Your Trip

Be sure to pack your camera! You’ll want to capture every moment as you tour South Korea from Seoul to Gwangju and back to Seoul, traversing a forested landscape bursting with color from autumn’s changing leaves — vibrant reds, oranges and yellows as far as the eye can see.

Starting in Seoul, you’ll head south to the agricultural region of Geumsan-gun. At a ginseng farm there, you’ll pick — and sample! — this plant that’s been grown in South Korea for 1,500 years. Continue south to Maisan Provincial Park in Jinan-gun to see Maisan mountain from a local observatory. Then, you’re off to Seomjingang Train Village for a round-trip ride aboard a steam engine train. You’ll have time to admire the pretty scenery as you ride along the river and over the tree-covered rolling hills. On your next outing, you’ll visit Baekyangsa temple in Naejangsan National Park. Founded in 632, this ancient Buddhist structure is surrounded by maple trees — a sight made even more stunning when the leaves turn color every autumn. After lunch, you’ll have free time to look around and admire the brilliant fall foliage of the park’s hills and pathways before heading back to Seoul.

You’ll also have some time to explore once you’ve returned to the city. Downtown, you can check out the N Seoul Tower — from an observation deck there, you can get get a great panoramic view of the city below. For something different, check out must-see 1395 Gyeongbokgung Palace, the former home of royalty during the Joseon dynasty — it’s part of the larger Gyeongbokgung complex of gates, bridges, pavilions and historical buildings. Another sightseeing option is Dongdaemun Design Plaza, a massive complex known for architecturally impressive buildings, exhibition halls and the Dongdaemun History & Culture Park.

What we love:
• Asian ginseng is purported to have several health benefits, including improved circulation and increased energy.
• In autumn, an estimated 100,000 people per day visit Naejangsan National Park — it’s considered one of the best places in South Korea to view and photograph the crimson leaves.
• If you love shopping, Seoul is the place for you! The city is full of vibrant markets selling items of all kinds — meat, seafood, gadgets, clothing, souvenirs and much more.
• To maximize your enjoyment, download the DreamTrips™ app to access DreamTrips Local — then earn points on dining, entertainment, spa experiences & more at select spots recommended by DreamTrippers just like you!
